Reflection Post

I can't even fathom that this will be my final post for AP Language & Composition 2013-2014. It's actually quite somber that this will be my last post, possibly until my college life or maybe even after that. I just wanted to say that it has been very pleasurable to post these blogs, and it has been a beneficiary, as I have obtained a great amount of knowledge and am now my eager to write and share my personal intuitions.

I wanted to reflect amongst all the blogs I have posted, dating all the way back to September of last year. I have been periodically posting what could possibly be my major in college, and I've expressed my thoughts and opinions on the variety of majors to choose from. I think that the most painstaking and remorseful decision you have to make once you apply yourself for college is your major, as it could be the area you study, possibly for your whole time at college, and potentially for your entire career. To be honest, I still am not 100% certain on what I want to study for college and the rest of my life, (I am only a Junior so I thankfully still have time) but for now, I am leaning towards the vocation of business! A major I have deeply been analyzing is actuarial science, which requires heavy knowledge in statistics, business, economics, finance, and even a little calculus.  I have always been fairly competent with my skills in mathematics, but I am still learning and I still want to learn more attainable information in economics, business, and calculus(which I will be taking next year). My senior year will indubitably consist of thoroughly researching and critiquing certain aspects of certain majors, and more importantly, finding what major will suit my personal self the most.
And that everyone, was my main focus for my blog this entire year: finding the right major for myself, Daniel Newell Stapleton. In doing so, I have been graciously opened up to a variety of fields to study, that have attracted my eyes and have been very constructive in narrowing down my decisions in what may lead me to the path of what I want to do for the rest of my life. Writing these blogs over the past nine months have all-in-all gave me a better understanding of my college future, and have also profoundly enhanced my writing skills and abilities. My perception on blogging has developed (positively of course) over this school year, and I can only thank Mr. Pinza for applying this into his teaching curriculum. Thank you all for a great year! :)

Pre-Law Student?

This is probably the most far-fetched majors I've written about so far, but, I'm up to talk about any major that interests me! Going into the law field would totally give me an altered perspective on where I want to go to college, what I want to be what I grow up, etc. Here's a little information on  pre-law major students: "Students planning to attend law school may select virtually any undergraduate major. Competition for admission to top-ranked law schools is quite intense. To be seriously considered by one of these schools, it helps to have a high GPA and a strong performance on the SAT exam. Students who major in law are individuals who are well adapted to hard work and rigorous schedules involving multiple classes and a lot of studying."
Now I haven't taken my SAT exam yet, but for the most part, you could say that I am "well equipped" to potentially become a law student. I really strive to do exceptionally well in my academics, and I try to do the best I can in all activities I am a part of (sports, clubs). I have decent communication skills, and I enjoy analyzing data and information. However, I'm not sure if I am ready for the challenge of taking multiple rigorous courses in college, especially just in my freshmen year.
So why Pre-law you ask? I have always had some interest in law, criminal justice, and methodology  ever since middle school, and I think this could be a good path for me. My mom has signed me up for a Law Program camp at STANFORD UNIVERSITY this summer, and I honestly cannot wait to go learn about law for an entire week with dozens of students! This camp/class might really change the perception I have on law, maybe for the good or maybe for the worst, but I am so willing and courageous to take this challenge. My mom has spent a lot, A LOT, of money to put me through this, because she knows what kind of student I am, and she thinks that I will really appreciate this program. I hope it all goes great!

BUSINESS MAJOR

Can't you just picture it? The business life. Wearing a suit every day, no matter where you may be, ready to sit down, talk about statistics, propose ideas, make deals, and most important, receive dough. I'm starting to really like the sound of this career! Today, it's time to tell of the possiblity of becoming a business major :D

So I've actually been pretty familiar with the business protege, as I took a program over the 2012 Summer named the Greene Scholars Program, in which myself, and many other African-American high school students learned and practice business procedures, marketing, and entreperneuralship! The class was five days long at Devry University up in Fremont, for about six hours a day, and I really learned a lot about persuasion, pitching speeches, advertising, and promoting products. We even got to meet a succesful entreperneur who was featured on CNN with Soledad O'brien for her, and her other collegues success story. I thought it was compelling and somewhat inspirational to see an African American woman, reach success, and actually get some investors for her product(which happened to be an app for Apple and the Android Market). All in all, the class was a great experience, and really gave me a brand new, positive perspective of the business regime.
I'd really like to learn more of the mechanics of a businessman. I'm currently taking statistics and and doing fairly well in the class, and for the 2013 summer, I am taking a program/camp for Law and Business at Stanford Univeristy for a week! I'm extremly amped up for this course, and I know it really could be a deciding factor for me in what I want to major in. As shown in the picture above, people in business rule the world! It's a really good candidate for a major of mine!

Real Estate - Career?

Hello everybody! It's time to switch gears a bit this time, and I'm going to talk about the possible career of being a realtor!
Well, in case you aren't a 100% sure what a realtor or real estate agent or real estate sales agent is, here's a little insight:
A Real Estate Agent or realtor has to Rent, buy, or sell property for clients. A realtor advises clients on prices, mortgages, and market conditions, generates lists of properties for sale, including details such as location and features and compares those properties, promotes properties through advertisements, open houses, and listing services, presents purchase offers to sellers for consideration, and prepares documents such as loyalty contracts, purchase agreements, and deeds. They've got a pretty hard, painstaking job wouldn't you say? I've actually been doing a ton of reseach on real estate careers, as it was the topic for my career presentation, and I've actually wandered up upon a lot of interesting things!
So real estate agents need a lot of requirements in order to be official. Many current realtors major in management, law, Psychology, sociology, English, marketing, accounting, a foreign language, international business, economy, computer science, engineering, communications, even mathematics. They have a lot of options to choose from, and some colleges even offer real estate courses along with econmics, marketing, and accounting. A lot of these major seem pretty interesting to me, and most likely I'll go into one of these fields.
So why would I, Daniel Stapleton, think about being a realtor? Well, for one, my mom had been a real estate agent for about 5 years or so, when I was in elementary and middle school. I used to meet her clients and even sometimes go with her to see open houses. She worked with two agencies, Coldwell Banker being one, and another smaller-named company that I can't remember the name of. I loved touring houses and looking at brand new appliances, custom made floors, renovated kitchens, enormous bathrooms, etc. I also love watching shows on HGTV (Home & Gardening Television), in which real estate agents and brokers are involved, in just about every show on the netwrok. I love seem there techniques in which they use on their clients like persuasion (constitutes with a lot of rhetoric). Real estate has been such an open subject to me, since a was a child, and I think I could see myself in the future as an agent, or independent broker!

Career of Political Science?

Helllllllllo langstas and blogspottas! It's Danny Stapleton, writing to you live from the Cathy residence (Maddie Cathy)  in Campbell, CA! haha :)

Well guys, I've talked about it all so far: Mathematics, Criminal Justice, Chemistry, and now...........Political Science!  In case y'all didn't know what it consists of: Political science is a social science discipline concerned with the study of the state, government, and politics. Aristotle defined it as the study of the state. It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics, and the analysis of political systems and political behavior. Political scientists "see themselves engaged in revealing the relationships underlying political events and conditions, and from these revelations they attempt to construct general principles about the way the world of politics works." Political science intersects with other fields; including economics, law, sociology, history, anthropology, public administration, public policy, national politics, international relations, comparative politics, psychology, political organization, and political theory. ---- Now this is an exquisite major lads! I've recently started to look into this major, and have now seen that it could be a possible option! Many colleges offer it, and many political science majors grow up to be successful people; whether they're, politicians, analysts, or even a news reporter! Now those careers sound pretty legitimate! But it all starts with choosing the major and the right college, with the right credentials, and the right motives.

So why political science? I've always been intrigued with the word "politics" and I think many people who know me would agree! I tend to watch the news, almost every morning before school, and I always find the topics discussed by news reporters and politicians to be fascinating! I tend to watch CNN, and my favorite anchor is Christine Romans, who is the host of CNN's "Your Bottom Line".  I did all of my journal entries for the dialectical journals during the summer, and I think it has made me appreciate the political science aspect a lot more! I followed Obama throughout the summer, and was able to see what skill sets he acquires, and how he uses these in his speeches and his forms of parlance. I am now getting a whole new perception of the realm of politics, and have now become accustomed to watching debates.  I feel like there's a vast amount of information out there, that I really need to see to help me open my eyes, and help me consider this major.

I know a couple of people at Westmont who are most likely going to go into this field, and I'm actually quite tempted to ask them what they like about it.  One notable person is Andrei Simpson, who is an incredible student, who I idolize, and he would be a great person to talk politics with! He's in Speech and Debate, and has a good sense for political science, and I'm sure he'd be happy to talk about it with me.  Also, I know Mr. Pinza is the adviser/coordinator for Speech and Debate, and he would be great to talk to!

Well thank you all for reading, leave comments and/or suggestions below! :) Thanks everybody! <3

Chemistry Major?

Hello blog spotters!! Danny's back back back, back again-gain-gain, and here for his third blog! :) WOOOHOOO

Soo, I've talked about possible majors in both Criminal Justice and Mathematics, but now it's time for my next topic.....CHEMISTRY!

Definition of Chemistry: a branch of physical science is the study of the composition, properties and behavior of matter. Chemistry is concerned with atoms and their interactions with other atoms, and particularly with the properties of chemical bonds. Chemistry is also concerned with the interactions between atoms (or groups of atoms) and various forms of energy (e.g. photochemical reactions, changes in phases of matter, separation of mixtures, properties of polymers, etc.).

Ohh chemistry! <3 I deeply fell in love with this subject my sophomore year at Westmont, when I was first introduced to it! It was definitely one of my most enjoyable subjects last year, and possibly one of my favorite of all time! There was so many vast new concepts to learn and so many new terms and ideas to apprehend! Also, I had a truly amazing teacher, Mrs. Barnes! I was extremely fortunate to have her as a teacher, and she was always there for my assistance, which I think was one of the main reasons I had an A for both semesters!
We covered soo many topics in class it was unbelievable! From the ones I can remember, there was Stoichiometry, States of Matter, Chemical Reactions, Periodic Trends, Solutions, Gases, Acids & Bases, Kinetics, Thermochemistry & Physical Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Atomic & Electronic Structure, and the list just goes on and on. So many topics, in such little time, but it was really beneficial to learn all of them, and I'm really considering doing this again, maybe even at the AP level if Westmont offers it next year! I would be delighted to dive back into to this amazing subject and learn even more material about it! :)

So now, could this subject be a possible major for me? HECK YES! I looked up what the qualities of a Chemistry major are: Chemistry majors are curious, analytical, and self-starting leaders. They have strong written and verbal communication skills and are good at math, physics, and biology. A chemistry student may like to perform experiments and work with their hands. I'd say I qualify for most of those credentials, except I haven't taken Physics yet. But, I am now pretty interested in the subject, and I'm going to do a lot more research on it and see what colleges have this exquisite major to offer! I'm sure I'd enjoy all the classes that come along with it, and I'll like the class because there will most likely be a lot of math involved! :) Chemistry can lead me to a wide variety of possible careers and intricate opportunities that I will have to consider later in life! :)

This could be me someday!:

Thanks to all my fans out there for reading this! Hope you all enjoyed it! I'll be back for more soon! :D

Mathematics Major!

Welcome fellow blog spotters and aplangstas! Danny is back, and here for my second blog post! :D

MATH!^
So my first blog talked about one of my possible majors for college, criminal justice, and this next one is going to be on the possible major of.............mathematics! My favorite subject ever since I can even remember(presumably since kindergarten) has been math.  I've always been fascinated and intrigued by every aspect of it! I think a main reason for this, is that my mom put me through an after school math and reading program called Kumon! I started Kumon when I was about 7 years old, and continued with it till I was 11! It really really really helped me with my math skills, and by the time I was in the fourth grade, and was learning sixth-grade level material! At first, I was kind of reluctant and resistant to do any of the problems that were assigned to me, and if I can recall, I hated my instructor(not actually hated, but didn't appreciate) but after spending a couple of years in the program, I saw that doing these problems were actually starting to get pretty fun!

NOW, as a junior in high school, math is still my favorite subject, and I can still get a kick out of it! (not as much as before, but you understand). Throughout high school, I've gotten an A or even an A+ in each of my math classes from previous years(geometry and Algebra 2) and am now currently enrolled in two math classes at Westmont: Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics! Both of these classes are pretty challenging, especially the AP, but I'm still able to be fascinated by every aspect of each of them! And luckily, I've been very fortunate in getting great teachers this year, once again! SHOUT OUT MS. SPIRIDON AND MR. ANDERSON :) I've been learning many new, various concepts in each class, and everyday, I cant wait to go to one of my math classes! It just cannot get any better than this!
Sooo, since math has been a very inspirational and motivational subject to me, I'm thinking that it might be a potential major. I know that there are hundreds, maybe quicksand of possible majors related to mathematics in some degree, and Ive started to look in to them! They all seem to be like something I would enjoy, especially majors in statistics! However, I'm not exactly sure which area I would be totally willing to learn/study on, but I am definitely going to be doing my research on various aspects of mathematical majors! It just may be the perfect major for me:) Hopefully, all of the colleges i apply to will have superfluous mathematical majors, and who knows? One day, maybe just one day, I, Danny Stapleton, will have a masters degree in some form of mathematics!

Thank you to all who have read this! Please leave a comment(If you want to) and if you have any ideas, post them below! THANKSSSSSSSSSSS <3
